we have had our motorhome for about 8 months now and absolutely love having one, the troubleis we have found that the layout isnt suitable for us, with having 2 boys and a rather large dog we decide we wanted a rear lounge just to give us a bit more room
anyway we went to local dealers where we got it from, they r telling us its worth 7k less than what we paid for it, yet when we look online our model is actually selling for more.
i know its different than selling a car but do motorhome dealers really make that amount of money, at this rate we just can not change.
You could sell it privately & then with no trade in you would probabley get a better deal on the vehicle you wish to buy. I would think selling a high value motorhome privately is a pretty daunting prospect for many tho. Which is why dealers charge so much for the convenience of simply driving your old vehicle to their premises & collecting your new one.
One way or another you will have to work for any money you wish to save. If you are prepared to travel a fair distance you might find a better deal than the one your local dealer is offering. If you wish to sell privately, be prepared for time wasters, derisory offers & even scammers.
Am I right in thinking that some dealers will sell your van for you, at a realistic price and charge you a certain %. . may be worth checking it out. Good Luck
If you're set on going through a dealer then the only thing to do is to shop around..
I swore that I'd never buy from a dealer again, after being messed around by Discover..and like you, when we enquired about a trade-in with 'em,were offered nearly 7k less than we'd payed 'em only five months earlier!(..and we hadn't bought it "new",so it wasn't due to the expected depreciation either..)
So we thought we'd just forget about it and get our use out of the one we'd got...however,some six months after that,we called in at Highbridge(..just for a look,as you do! ),a MH caught our eye and we were offered almost 4k more than Discover had offered us..!!
(..However,having now seen many of their branches close down..they obviously didn't really want the stock around their necks anyway..)
they should have offered a better part ex as most dealers are now getting short on stock, just go to another dealers and you might be surprissed what they offer. i remember when i wanted to trade my last van about five years ago, whilst waiting for a salesman i heard someone in a office talking on a phone that they expected to make £3000 on each van, and they only offered £13000 for mine even though they was selling the same model at £21000. so i went elsewhere and got £17000 and a better van for less. just because they offer you a price they are trying it on they can move on it if pushed. remember they are dealers at the end of the day just trying to sell you something.
We've also gone to Highbridge for our new motorhome, a Chausson Flash 04. They offered a PX of £3,000 more than any other dealer against the same new model, same spec, consequently we're going to Highbridge, despite it being 250 miles away!!!
We're not novice motorhomers so were quite happy to do this to get the deal - fortunately they won't insist on our going back to them for annual checks and servicing!!!
We get it on Monday so will be showing it off at Peterborough show.
Just off J22 of the M5..it's a bit of a trawl down there for us,a 5hr+ round trip(..but nothing compared to some though eh?)..but we feel it's been more than worth it..
