Hi everyone,

We have just bought our 2nd motorhome, a big old 25 ft Bedford called Barrie, which we love and can't wait to go away in. But we have a problem, the fridge works on 240v but when we try to use it on gas it will light but then goes out when you release the knob. We have tried pressing the knob then waiting 1 minute then trying to light it but it still went out. We have a spark every time. When it lights the flame is yellow, I always thought it was meant to be blue??

Anyone have an idea what it could be, whether we could fix it ourselves and the approximate cost?

Thanks in advance! Lucy x

Don't know, but I imagine it's the safety device operating as it should, cutting the gas supply when it's not burning correctly.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge of this type of fault will be along shortly to advise, meanwhile leave well alone (unless of course one of you is a competent gas fitter!).

Okey dokey, thanks. Think I will get all the gas checked out to be safe before we venture on our first outing!

The problem is either blocked burner needs cleaning out i use a small pipe attached to the vacum cleaner hose with tape. yellow flame lack of oxygen in the mix posibbly not heating the thermo couple enough.

or the thermo couple is burnt out £5 if you fit yourself it is an electrical component so you are not touching the gas side .

The thermo couple is an electrical switch that makes a circuit when hot and tells the gas valve to stay open if it fails the gas valve closes, ie if the flame blows out it shuts downl.

Hooray the fridge is fixed! We cleaned out the back of it as advised and now have a blue flame that ignites first time and it didn't cost a penny! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help!
