Currently have a Movelite XL but it is way too flimsy in the wind.  However, we really like the style of these awnings.  The Khyam looks similiar in design but more robust?  Anyone with experience in them?

Like you we are looking at the Kyham motordome having just bought a campervan.

Before that we camped in a Kyham tent with the same style frame as the motordome for 10 years.  It never let us down once, we've camped in gales, torrential rain, snow, mud baths, you name it, we've camped in it.  On several occassions we've got up to find we were the only tent remaining after a particuraly wet and windy night.

If the motordome is as robust as the tent you have nothing to worry about.  Just make sure you use all the guy ropes in bad weather.

There is a nack to putting them up and down but once you have it you really can pitch in a few minutes and be ready to lay back and chill out.

Hi

we bought some of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Veranda-Pole-Carbon-Fibre-/200467431833  and placed then as uprights near the corner sections, strapped them down with these http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/caravan/outdoor/product_31535/Isabella_Storm_Strap_and_Peg.aspx?aff=122 and it was rock solid.

Had the added advantage of being able to hang things on the poles and the weight was supported by the upright veranda poles.

Hope this helps

Andy

Hi, we don't have the motordome, but have a Kyham screenhouse its lower than the dome and stands alone not attached to the van.We have had it up in some really strong winds with no problems, and only takes a few minutes to put up, great bit of kit. Bob.

I too have the Kyham Screenhouse but ours came with a tunnel that connects to the back of our caravan. I use 50mm wide hook & loop for this, the smooth side stuck to the van with double sided tape. This has lasted since 2007.

For this season I have had the local sailmaker further modify it by attaching 25mm hook & loop along the bottom of the 2 side walls/mesh areas to stop the draughts there.

However if you want something bigger than the screenhouse at just 3m X 3m, you could go for the Kyham Driveaway at 6m X 4.5m.

The green one is a self standing tent and can still be used as such (as can the blue one). It is just that they both have added tunnel bits so that they can also attach to a sprintaway caravan or a camper van.

Hi, when we get together with friends we put a motordome and screenhouse together and we can get 16/18 of us in them.         Bob.

Not worked out how to put the picture in the post yet, but see my gallery.....

we have a  Movelite XL and put it up when camping in spain on a beach camp site with the wind blowing off the sea .it stud up to all the battering with no problem at all .just keep a eye on the pegs and guide ropes like any awning and it will stop up. if  like us you through the straps over the roof of your motorhome ,if you twist them they do not drum in the wind ,

do it to day it might be too late tomorow
