Some caravan shops will only sell you rubber gas pipe in max 1 metre lengths stating that this is max allowable length of rubber gas pipe. A longer run than that needs to be metal. Others will sell you as much as you want in 1 length.
Apart from 'ealth 'n safety regs theres no technical reason why you should not use any length you want.
My dealer was a tad more understanding but said he "should" only sell me 1.5 metres.
The issue is I believe that it is a trip hazard with a very nasty twist if by tripping you also pull off the fitting leaving gas issuing. Not only bruised knees but setting the whole place alight in the process.
I believe its far more just common sense rather than any statutory based "rule"; where a responsible dealer simply wants to avoid any possible negligence comeback.
Like tentz says mate how long is a piece of string, this afternoon i watched a belgian opposite me, having a barbie on one of those cadacs things and his gas hose must have been at least 5 metres, he was well away from his camper.
Hi, we have 4 meters of hose on ours, we were told they should only sell us 1 meter and I told her our external BBQ point is over a meter off the ground I would have to stand it on a table beside the van or have loads of joints in it, how safe would that be. Bob.
------------- Never plan anything then it cant go wrong
If I could just sidetrack this thread for a moment...
I'm looking at fitting and external gas point to our van and I just wondered how folk have got them "plumbed in"?..
I'm assuming that they are supposed to be installed using rigid copper pipe(as opposed to flexible hose)and that an internal isolation valve is included somewhere along the run..?
Thanks
Chris
Edit:..Just another question..does anyone know if the quick release& tap arrangement,is available as a seperate item, minus the plastic housing?
As I have thought of just installing a coupling in the gas locker and then just passing the hose up through a hole in the floor to connect it up..

If he was one of the Belgians who is slaughtering whales for fun, ( google : belgian whale killing) I hope he was doing something very dangerous!
Thanks for the info I am only to buy 2.0 / 2.5 meters just enough to keep it back from the caravan so I dont splash it with grease.

Can you not just whip a bottle out of the van, then you can bbq as far away as you like, with only a metre of hose? Yards of LPG hose strung out round a van doesnt sound over safe to me.
I currently use a 3 m hose from the BBQ point, with no problem at all. I have tried using shorter hoses but the BBQ splashes when cooking and makes a bit of a mess on the side of the MH
