Hi
Have a slight leak in my motorhome from I think water pipes to sink....not leaking all the time but when the tap is used and the pump kicks in.

I'm sure that it is easy to repair but the sink is above the fridge and the pipes are behind it. Beside the fridge is the cooker. How easy are these appliances to lift out so that the pipes can be inspected.

Can this be done by anyone or is it best to go to a motorhome/caravan specialist?

hi ray if you had a leak in your hot and cold pipes the pump would start and stop all the time it might be your waste.do you have vents on the side of your van behind the fridge?you might get to the sink that way the thing you would need to watch is your gas pipe you dont want that leaking.

Dont think its my waste ......
I have vents on the side of the van so will see if I can remove them and see what I can see.

As far as I know the gas pipes are okay.....

Think its the water pipes as water appears on the floor after the taps have been used.

Agree that if you had a water pipe leak, the pump would run intermittently. If not the waste pipe, then check the seal round the waste outlet in the sink, or the sealing gasget round the sink itself.

Can I just say ... the pump wouldn't run intermittently (or "kick in") if the on/off switch(s) are built into the tap(s) .. the leak would only occur whilst running the tap.
From what you say, I would suspect a slight leak, only obvious, when the system is pressurised. ie the tap is operated ..

You still need to get to it tho' ...

Fridge removal is usually quite straight forward .. if there's a vent above the fridge (with the control switches etc) remove this first ..

Ive just fixed a leak on my tap in the loo. I had a 'spit' of water injected down the water pipe from the tap union when the pump kicked in - but only as it kicked in. It didnt 'flow' all the time the pump was running, nor did it cause the pump to operate due to the 'leak'. I dont know how you'd easily access the kitchen sink without looking at my own. Im guessing the fridge would have to come out. But before that, id be tempted to remove the fridge vent to see if i could get to the base of the tap from there first.

Thanks Martin very helpful....sounds like its what you mentioned. Given me confidence to try to remove the fridge..just held in with 4 screws ...reading the manual...
The only vents are on the outside of the MH....had a look behind these but can't see the taps or sink!!!

Thanks Mick S..........think my leak may be a bit more than a spit from the water leaking onto the floor. Will take a deep breadth and see if I can take the fridge out.....

Is there anything that I should take care with? The manual isn't too helpful

I take it, the fridge is both gas and electric ??

If so there must be some way in .. to disconnect the gas supply pipe which should be rigid (copper) don't think rubber pipe is allowed ....

So yes .. take care to disconnect this before moving the fridge ... also the exterior flue will most likely need removing .. just two screws usually ..

If it's not a gas fridge, disregard this post lol ..

[edit] course it isn't a vent above the fridge .. should have said .. a control panel .. which should be removable to allow access .. it may also allow access the water pipes and taps if your lucky .mart.

Ray, the leak could be caused by the union 'jumping' the locking pin. Mine had managed to force its way the wrong side of the pin, thereby breaking the seal in the tap base.

Just a thought, but I had this type of leak after the winter and it turned out to be a frost damaged ceramic tap insert which was on a Reich mixer tap and was repaired very easily with a new cartridge (£15). The whole thing can be done from the top of the tap,(no need for arms like Mr Tickle).

It did appear after the frozen wintry spell.

Not sure if mine are Reich......is this tap insert the thing you can simply pull out of the tap without any tools......if so how do you know its damaged...did you get a replacement from a website?

Ray, if its the same type tap as mine, the pipe-end fitting just shoves into the base of your tap ( you'd likely have to remove the lock-nut underneath the tap and raise the tap above the sink to see what youre doing), the locking pin slides across the union to hold it in place. Its fairly obvious once youre looking at it.

If this leak has come about after the winter, my shekels are on a split tap base.

No, just went to the local caravan shop and they had it on the peg.

For the Reich taps there are two types of cartridge, blue and white. If yours is a lever lift mixer tap I'd be tempted to take the thing apart from above before scratting around under cabinets.

Someone on here will know what taps are fitted to your unit I would guess, or you could try the suppliers.
