Hi

I have a mclouis coachbuilt motorhome, which has a fiamma sun canopy, and i am looking at buying a freestanding motorhome awning.

Would anyone recommend or give advice on freestanding motorhome awnings?

Have thought about freestanding motorhome awning because when we are away we do use the van as transport and with a freestanding  awning it would be much easier rather than putting up a privacy room?

Thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations.

Not so much about any particular freestanding awning but more about general use.

Once you are parked up and have put up your freestanding awning, peg a length of white rope on the ground along the side of your front and back tyres.
Peg a very short length at right angles to the rope, exactly in the centre of your front wheel.

When you are away during the day, on your return, open the cab door and watching the rope, drive along it, stopping when your front tyre is at the short rope.

This way your van will be in the exact postion to link up with your freestanding awning.

Hi,

I got a second hand Royal Traveller 2 awning. It is great. Very quck and easy to erect but also very solid.

Similarly to the above poster we mark where our tyres need to go so we line the van up to the awning. our method is very simple though and involves using a twig or the like!!!  lol

thanks for the handy tip about leaving the awning when you are away, I never thought about that.

I am just now sure how easy they are to pitch up, we have a fiamma sun canapoy which I understand some of awnings you need a fiamma figure of 8 attachment?

The awning I had on my second motorhome needed a length of "J" aluminium strip pop riveted onto the side of the van about 9" above the door to accommodate the figure of 8 strip.

My present caravan also uses motorhome/campervan freestanding awnings,I have 2, a small one 3m x 3m [see my gallery] and a large one 6m x 4.5m, see below.
Both of these attach to the van with 50mm wide industrial Velcro (known as Hook & Loop). The hook side is held to the van with double sided carpet tape and this has now been on for 3 years. The other side is stiched to the awning tunnel.
This means that the whole of the tunnel is held onto the van and is completely weatherproof.

The beauty of these types of Kyham freestand awnings are that they are also tents in their own right and can be used as such.
