I've just purchased a eldiss autoquest and noticed a lead hanging down from the step.

I'm guessing that this is a connection for a warning buzzer to alert you that the step is out.

does anyone know where it connects to?  I've E-mailed explorer group and received no reply.

many thanks   (update) thank for replys..I've just recieved an e-mail fromthe explorer group..apparently the lead is fitted so that you can add an alarm to the step to notify you that you've left it out....why they did'nt fit it god only knows..money pinching i suspect

No lead hanging out of Bruce's step. It slides out everytime we drive off but has a chain to stop it falling out completely. I gave up stopping to push it back in. Don't use it anyway as I find a caravan step easier to use.

Could it be a retro-fit by a previous owner in which case Elddis probably don't have the answer to your question hence no rely from them?

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

My Compass Avantegard is also made by Explorer Group and like you I found the step lead unconnected to anything other than a switch on the step frame.  I didn't bother doing anything about it until I realised I had driven off a couple of times with the step down!

I took a supply from an ignition controlled cigarette socket to the switch and wired in a 12 volt piezo buzzer from Maplins and hey presto - if the step is down and the ignition is turned on I get a reminder.  Hope this helps.

David
