On my Swift when on hook up and the battery charger is switched on the Leisure battery will charge if the switch is in the Van position, the Starter battery will charge if the switch is in the Cab position. In the centre position neither battery will charge but the charger will supply 12v to all the 12v electrics, lights, pump etc.
Once the Leisure battery is charged the charger unit should be switched off so that the battery can be cycled with use, this keeps it healthy.
When travelling the engine alternator will charge the Starter battery and if you have a split charge relay fitted the Leisure battery will also get a trickle charge. The switch in the Hab area has no effect on the charging of the batteries.
Phil.
