We've had a toad / sterling immobiliser on our Hymer from buying it 3 years ago and nothing to report, This is the immobiliser I'm talking about and not an alarm cos I don't go bundle on alarms. Long established and well regarded company though from what I've gathered.

I used to fit Toad alarms for a living, very hardy and capable, but an alarm is only as good as the installer, most problems are down to bodged fitting.

Sounds smug, but I never had one come back with a fault caused by fitting

I have one fitted in the van I've just purchased and it had the Thatcham 1 upgrade with a wireless intruder PIR in the living section, seems very good, only downside is that can't seem to find a sensible user manual for it.

You should get a small instruction booklet from them (I did) and a card with the alarm PIN code (important).

neil - hi ! have finally collected Fifi and have a few issues that I'll be pursuing with Danbury.... I'm thrilled with the way the conversion is designed - so compact etc and am enjoying showing this off to friends.. however -

- they didn't fit the alarm and re-funded me because 'there's a new model of alarm that doesn't fit her' - i know this to be rubbish

- despite being told - and urged to buy her- when i rang for casual info in April - that she was the last 1.3 diesel - there was another there unsold.  They said ' oh we found this in the workshop!!!! and decided may as well sell it - we'd used it as demo'

mine has masses of danbury stripes, logos everywhere which none i've seen pics of have - i strongly suspect they've palmed me off with the demo - there was damage to a seat cushion that i spotted and they replaced the cushion etc etc. they said' oh they all have stripes etc on them..'

does yours have 'go faster' stripes on side and plastered with logos?

best

No...and they didn't ask. I don't think they would have shown up too well on the unusual blue colour on my van.

I've seen the logo on a couple of Doblos' photos, and some of the larger vans.

I think it's sorted - one incident where it triggered for no good reason, but nothing since. Mind you, I haven't had the alarm switched on for a prolonged period lately because the van's been in use or in storage.

Well done on the wild camping...haven't done that yet. I never seem to find places that seem quiet enough or safe to me...probably too paranoid

I'm on my longest trip in it at the moment - set off 9 days ago for a meet near Colchester last weekend, currently heading back towards South Wales via the south coast (currently near Selsey). Work and weather will probably determine how long I'm away.

It is compact, yes, and gets plenty of attention. And I'm still trying to pack too much stuff into it

It seems I'm the only one (so far) that has/had an issue with the Toad alarm. It was a nightmare if it went out of sequence & often did. I've had it go off when parked on my drive & simply walking past it? Just activating the entry mode, thereby any movement in the van would be detected, was a no no. In that mode I had to ensure all the windows were shut, as a slight breeze would activate it, even a fly has set it off. So each time I set the alarm, it was with 2 blips of the sender fob, so the movement sensor was not activated. The engineer who installed it actually came out to my property (25 mls) to check the system out & could find no fault. And he was from a well established company, handling everything connected with MH electronics. But left me detailed proceedure to reset the system if/when it went haywire again, by using the ignition key & turning the ign on & off at preset intervals. I've since sold that MH & made sure the new one had no connection with Toad before I went ahead with the deal.

oh poor ozzy - maybe you had a similar problem to the fiats.... was told that there was a problem dealing with the eccentric wiring on the Fiats which was actually why mine was not fitted - thank goodness....

Neil!! apparently you should be able to isolate and generally do a war dance or somesuch in order to set the alarm when yr inside it - ie deleting the internal sensor.. this shd make you feel safer when inside - and was one of the reasons why I had wanted it

Fifi is my car so won't be in storage - interested by the way as to whether you've also noticed the leisure battery dropping a little (see my post on this) even when not being used.

Stuff - yes - difficult to restrain oneself!! I'm using the fridge as a cupboard!

9 days - most impressive!! do you have a heater?

best, lizzythefish

Well...the alarm is still acting up a bit, but I can't see a pattern. I left it for a couple of hours (Ludlow Bay), came back, went to deactivate and it told me it had gone off (left door again). A week later I leave it for 5+ hours (Eden Project) and it's fine. Weird.

No...but I am doing a good job of draining it via the compressor fridge and diesel blown air heater. If I have the fridge on low and I drive around a bit I can get a few days out of it. With the fridge on normal I'm lucky to get through a weekend. With the heater in occasional use as well...I've managed to flatten the battery in less than a day

Yes...but it's not much help when the battery is flat and you've chosen not to pay for EHU . Did that last Wednesday...woke up Thursday morning to find it about 2 degrees inside the van, grey water bucket frozen outside, no heater, and the temperature so low that the Campingaz (butane) was not working properly....managed to warm up the kettle before the flame died away. No other option but to head for the *warm* shower block on site
