Hi All

First post as a newbie.......I have been scanning the ads for weeks to find a scooter rack for my motorhome and am amazed at the sheer cost of these things. My simple question is this, ...........The amount of work that is put into the rack can be easily done by my local steel fabricator, powder coated and finished for less than half the price of what I have seem for sale in the back of the mags. Assuming that a few subtle changes are made to avoid any patent problems I reckon these can be marketed at around £100 less than the cheapest I have seen advertise at £395. If this is acheivable would you buy one(hypothetically)

Hi Louis n Carole, this is very interesting, could you post some details of the rack you made? The one I use at the moment means I have to lift the motorcycle into place as well as lift it off, not much fun as it's rather heavy and it needs to be lifted about 500mm when on level ground.

Phil.

Hi Carole and Louis, thanks for the offer. I am sure lots of people on this forum would be very interested in how you made your rack. Quite a few would love to take a scooter or small motorcycle with them on holiday but the commercially available racks are so expensive.

Hiya Phil

As soon as louis gets back from Zeebrugge he will send you the details, but first he will send you a pic of the schooter rack and try to explain how he made it, one thing is for sure its certainly made life easier and many a time folk tend to look at the rack when we are in camping etc and seemed pretty impressed. So get back to you a.s.a.p on the details.

Carole

Hi carole,

I have been scouring the earth for scooter racks and have drawn a blank.  As I hail from Northern Ireland I cant get one here at all.  If you could send me details I might be able to get one manufactured over here. As we intend to tour abroad a lot next year due to retirement a scooter would be invaluable.

Thanks      Edendarriff

we have had a scooter rack fitted to our last two vans, one point you have to watch out for is the payload of vehicle and the overhang from rear axle very easy to break law.yes it is easy to run about but make sure scooter will carry two up ours was only 50cc and underpowered so we sold it and i am going to fit a tow bar and tow a motorbike. if any one is intrested then i still have the rack but it will need brackets for the vehicle chassis. as i left the brackets on the last van, rack was removable for when scooter wasn't needed. the rack fitted a chassis VW  two square steel 4cms arms go into fixed brackets 107cms apart. it was made by MJ engineering of chelford adverts in MMM. contact me if you require it.
