Anyone out there use an American motorhome or 5th wheel rv have suggestions on where to camp, conversions needed to drive it around the UK and Europe ect..  I need all the advise possible.

My family and I are moving to the UK next summer from USA and would like to full-time RV while there for the 2 years.  Please help with advise, I have never traveled outside the USA much less full-timed it with my kids.  New adventure await us.

There is a a site you can join - Mo and Dicks big pitch guide  - which gives lots of RV and bigger unit friendly sites. Its quite expensive so as ours is only a small RV we have never joined but I am told its very good.

We had a 24ft  6.9ltr V8 Minnie Winnie for several years in the '80's. Being a 6 berth, fully loaded,  It would be big enough to "full time" but also small enough for British roads and campsites. We took it everywhere and anywhere, including forest tracks and West Country lanes. Have you considered fuel costs in UK? They are far higher than in USA (my daughter lived in  NY for 3 years). Our motorhome had LPG factory fitted which reduced running costs considerably. I would suggest you join the Caravan Club ,for the UK., you will find superb sites and will get guidance as to which sites can cope with a larger, heavier vehicle.

For Europe, we toured France, Germany, Luxemburg, Holland and Switzerland. We had no problems finding good sites and did not even book in advance. The Swiss were a little "fussy" at the border, we had to demonstrate the vehicle weight and pay a "toll". They were not too polite, seemingly for no reason. Probably a one off, customs guard? oh thank you for all the info.  we have not decided which type of rv to buy or whether to buy here and ship it over. i thought rv's could be upto 39 feet long in uk, is that right?   what is renting MH, i do not know what that is and where can I do that.  we were going to join the caravan club. we were thinking of either a driving motor home and tow a small car or driving our truck and have a 5th wheel camper.  how much is gas in the uk now.

as far as travel we would like to go as many places as possible in 2 years, I will work 4 months at a time then take all the time we need to travel around europe, we will travel the uk while i work on my days off. 

can all motorhomes get that lpg conversion
