There is a a site you can join - Mo and Dicks big pitch guide  - which gives lots of RV and bigger unit friendly sites. Its quite expensive so as ours is only a small RV we have never joined but I am told its very good.

There is an RV web forum as well which is full of very nice people who would help I am sure

We had a 24ft  6.9ltr V8 Minnie Winnie for several years in the '80's. Being a 6 berth, fully loaded,  It would be big enough to "full time" but also small enough for British roads and campsites. We took it everywhere and anywhere, including forest tracks and West Country lanes. Have you considered fuel costs in UK? They are far higher than in USA (my daughter lived in  NY for 3 years). Our motorhome had LPG factory fitted which reduced running costs considerably. I would suggest you join the Caravan Club ,for the UK., you will find superb sites and will get guidance as to which sites can cope with a larger, heavier vehicle.

For Europe, we toured France, Germany, Luxemburg, Holland and Switzerland. We had no problems finding good sites and did not even book in advance. The Swiss were a little "fussy" at the border, we had to demonstrate the vehicle weight and pay a "toll". They were not too polite, seemingly for no reason. Probably a one off, customs guard? This website offers brilliant campsite information too. Hope this helps. I will try to answer any other specific questions you may have. just post on here! Best wishes!

Hi,
Are you bringing your own RV to UK? If so there may be some adjustments to make to the electrics and power cord connection. Possibly city water connection too. Black and grey water disposal very different here. Will you want to tow a car? What length RV? Which countries do you hope to visit?
(We full-timed US 11 years in a 36'Dolphin MH.)

If you are renting MH here you will find it much easier to find pitches on campgrounds by restricting MH length to 30' max. Petrol/gas is about £1.20 a litre generally in Europe.
Driving UK roads should not be a problem but you may need to avoid some of the country roads and small town centres. Parking will be a problem. Best advice is to join Caravan Club who can guide you on everything.

oh thank you for all the info.  we have not decided which type of rv to buy or whether to buy here and ship it over. i thought rv's could be upto 39 feet long in uk, is that right?   what is renting MH, i do not know what that is and where can I do that.  we were going to join the caravan club. we were thinking of either a driving motor home and tow a small car or driving our truck and have a 5th wheel camper.  how much is gas in the uk now.

as far as travel we would like to go as many places as possible in 2 years, I will work 4 months at a time then take all the time we need to travel around europe, we will travel the uk while i work on my days off.

can all motorhomes get that lpg conversion

thank you so much for all the posts.

Renting MH is what you would call "hiring" MH. There must be plenty of options for hiring (try googling for UK MH rental) but it would be extremely expensive for 2 yrs. You might be better advised to ship your truck from US on Roll-on, Roll-off Ferries which would not be too expensive and purchase a caravan (trailer) from any of the caravan dealerships - either new or used - on arrival and I think I would do that in Germany rather than anywhere else. As an example, look at Hobby caravans online for optional layouts (German manufacturer)many of which are suitable for full-timing. The dealership in Germany can help with registration and insurance of the caravan. Google ADAC (which is the German equivalent of your AAA) and get their breakdown cover whilst here in Europe. It would be approx 2-3 day journey from Germany to Calais France to connect with Ferries or Eurotunnel to UK The caravan could be sold when you leave or taken back to US. Your US truck will probably be OK for most caravans. It would not need any alterations to allow usage in Europe where they drive on the right as in US but you would need to adjust headlight dipping to drive in UK on left. This can be very easily done with stickers on the headlamps. We have Explorer XLT 6L V8. Gas is about £1.20 litre in Europe. (approx 4.5 litres to US gallon)
