Hi, We use a VanAkken smartbox, had it for about 4 years now without any problems, at the time the vehicle was still under manufacturers warrantee so we wanted something that could be removed at the service, it does make the van a lot more responsive especially up hill, those long gradiants on motorways where you just had to change down are a thing of the past, as for fuel consumption its about the same not really had any affect, have spoken to people who have had a remmapp and they report much the same sorts for results, some state they have achived better fuel consumption but I'm of the old school who still thinks you get nothing for nothing, it certainly has made the driving experiance a lot better.

Hope that helps, sorry about the spelling but my spell checkers isn't working and we are in France at the moment so can't fix it.

I believe that Van Akken may be in the hands of the Receivers

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge VanAken UK went bust a year or two ago, not sure of the reason but would think is was on economic grounds, they were at the time of my purchase one of the leaders in the field but like everything else they can get overtaken by circumstance.

Hoping that the box continues for a long time to come but in fairness if it packed up today, which I surley hope it dosent as we are in France, it would still have been a good investment as it only cost at the time 4 years ago just over £200 on a special offer and they fitted it free.

The main thing, as I have already said, at the time I was more concerned with being able to remove it during any service as the van was under Garantee, which is a point worth noting for anyone thinking of having a boost to there engine, also you must notify your insurance company some charge extra and other don't.

Hope that helps

I have a Vw Transporter T4, not a camper though, but it is used for towing our caravan. It was a bit under powered as it is the 102 bhp version so I got it remapped at a place near Rochdale called Chipwizards and it now produces 149 bhp as it was done properly on a rolling road. Cost £250 and it has transformed the van. Well pleased with it.

Have read the tuning extras cause extra strain on the mechanicals, causing a reduced engine life!
