Can I just ask what other forum users do when their van is parked up at home? When on the drive, we have been leaving our van plugged in to keep the batteries charged up.
It didn't matter how long it stayed plugged in for, the batteries never once showed fully charged.
A few months back, we found the engine battery totally flat and same with habitation battery. Turned out the charger unit had given up. Have just had a new charger unit fitted at a cost of over £1,000 and happy to announce that both batteries are running and charging perfectly, better than they ever have before (tested when disconnected from mains obviously).
What I want to know, is when your van is on the drive at home, do you leave it plugged in all the time? Do you only charge it just before you are going to use it? Could the fact that we left it plugged in all the time, be the reason the charger unit failed? Could it have been a dodgy power unit initially, given that we never once saw it at full charge?
Would welcome any suggestions in relation to this.
Sara
