I use industrial strength deodouriser fluid ( only cos I happen to be able to get it ) just a little bit makes drains smell like sweet chewing gum
Lovely
I always let the waste run straight out of the tank into a container, to be emptied on-site as and when. Never had a smell from the plug holes all the time ive had the 'van.

My wife has poor sense of smell as well
With all the caravans we have had none have had waste tanks and all have given some smell from the drain when left standing
I always put disinfectant down the plughole every winter and leave the van with a the plugs in the holes
i also put the pressure washer drain cleaner up the van drain when needed
The water trap has made a difference but it will dry out over a long period on unuse
Ive just run a load of bleach down all the plugholes, with what water was left in the fresh tank after our final outing of the year. Ive left it sitting in the tank, till i take it for its MOT next week. Once its sloshed about, ill drain this off, which should leave clean waste pipes and tank for next year.
ps i dont have a poor sense of smell, John - theres never nowt to smell to start with!
The whole idea of purchasing a motorhome was so that we could use it throughout the winter too, with the exception of snow covered roads, that is!!!!
So, the 'van water tanks will not get completely emptied, and the 'van heater will be turned on to the frost setting, to stop ice doing any damage.
We continue using ours' throughout the winter..but I always fully drain the water system and just take a seperate water container...
..heating or not,I don't want to get caught out by a hard frost and unless the 'van is fully winterised(with heated and insulated tanks etc),it's doubtful whether you'd keep them protected just by running the heater in the 'van....
Here is my unique advice given to me by an old man in France many many moons ago,' always empty the waste tank even on site (use a bucket), and in between journeys put some TOILET BLUE or whatever you use for the toilet holding tank and let it slosh it around as you travel to your next destination, it works WONDERS i have never had smelly waste tank. At home on the drive i do the same plenty of water and a good dose of toilet fluid.
