I been meaning to write this when we cameback abot 2 weeks ago, but anyhow its just a warning to all of you heading for France at anytime, we usually stop at the air by the feryy terminal and pay 7euros, this time(and many times before) we stopped for the night at big car park next to the marina, this time there was a parking ticket on the screen for 7 euros to be paid at the camping municipal, i went there not to pay but complain about it, of all the years that we have been to Calais and parked there, this is the first time, apparently the manager of  the camp site in question has permission for this, but at the aire you can get water and get rid of your grey water and empty the toilet, at the car park you cannot do this. I have actually sent an email to the tourist office in Calais and have had a reply??? This was unknown to them and promised me they would send a letter to the town hall re. my complaint. Has anybody else had this happen to them?, i urge to send an email to the tourist office to all that have been had  by what i would call a scam run by an individual(s) at the campsite.

Sounds a bit dodgy but I suppose If they want to avoid having vans parked all over the place then they should have bylaws instead. chasing unsuspecting mtorhome owners around isn't the way to do it

We have been going to the aire at Calais now fro 5 yrs There has always been a sign saying that it is 7euro ...the guy from the camp site usually comes round about 6pm to collect if you are not there he leaves a note to pay at the campsite... If you arriav eafter 6 and leave early sometimes you miss him ... Dont know about the car park we usually go to the aire .if not we just go to Cite Europe they have a designated place for motorhomes  and its free,,

The camping municipal & aire will be owned by the local authourity, as presumabley is the marina carpark. If the town council has decided to charge motorhomes to use ajacent car parks as well as the aire then it will be legal.

To find out, you need to write to or email the the Calais local council office(Marie)website here. There are of course plenty of other places in the area you can park for free.

Yeah thanks for the replies, i know Calais as well as i know Liverpool, and we been going there for over 20 years, and may add i and many others ie. dutch/germans/french, were the originators for having a proper aire in Calais, we started a petition to then mayor of Calais, i'm talking about 15/16 years ago', now going back to my query, the tourist office in Calais did not know about these parking fees being given, may add only to camping cars and not cars and vans in general, as i said in my post it sounds as though someone is milking the system, but i will endavour to find out more by going to the above ie. marie website in Calais, thanks again for the replies.
