So there we have it. I hope you all saw the holiday programme on BBC1 tonight. He went on holiday with his 2 children in an orange VW and had a good time. He said many tongue in cheek remarks about other similar ways of holidaying, that I will not repeat as that fills about 10 pages on a similar thread !
Let's hope it may give us some positive publicity towards the general public, and you never know, may even convert a few more to this way of life.
I had one until a month ago, and now its purple!!!!!!

Interesting programme - and some of the comments he made about other campers were very uncool I thought! also thought the hire charge for the van was quite expensive, especially when you add on the cost of the pitches - hope it doesn't put people off. I did like the orange VW though - but I don't think orange would suit Bambi, more of a pink, perhaps?
Yes Debs, you are dead right. No chance of me paying £24 or £32 for a pitch for our holidays. I suppose if you can afford £500 to hire the van for a week though, it won't matter much.
But its the insurance that accounts for much of that!! I looked at the possibilities of hiring out T2's and an acquaintance of mine does do van rental. The insurance is crippling. You have to bear in mind too that the insurance runs for 12 months and the van will (probably) only be in demand during the summer months and in the case of a VW a couple of weekends , for festivals. The cost has to be covered over a relative short period. Also the insurance tends to be very restrictive. eg only one driver per hire, over 25, under65 etc.etc
BTW If anyone wants to hire a '68 Dormobile its £380 p/week!! or £700 for two

Excellent - just the thread Im after - was going to start it up myself!.
I'd like to hire an old ('70ish) type 2 for a w/e. Im based just West of London and just want to take my girlf away somewhere for a little valentines adventure. Does anyone know of a good hire place with not quite such extortionate prices and with the possiblity of a pink one?!? Weekend to remember for the lady and all that...!
Bust - more info on the '68? like location, website, etc etc
Havn't had much luck trawling the web as yet, cheers in advance all...
(and no - im not going to buy one then resell, a years insurance, tax, too much to go wrong, upkeep etc etc if i wanted all that Id have one by now! and anyway - i dont think i could handle having a pink motor all year round!)
Incidently if you look on their picture page you can see my orange bay undergoing full body resto
