Hi all,

We are about to have a look at our fridge and try and fix it   If I explain the problem, any advice would be welcome. We'd go straight to a dometic service engineer but it's a few hours journey and we'd have to leave the van there a week!

240v is fine as 12v.

Gas - the yellow light comes on and flickers whilst it tries to ignite - sometimes this does ignite and the lights stays on for a while and then it flickers again (meaning it isn't working we understand) Mostly it won't light at all.

We have been told to clean the jet, but we aren't sure where this is or if it can be removed to be cleaned? And we don't know how to get it out. (in laymans idiot proof terms )

has anyone done this? There are a few fridge problems already on the site but I haven't found the same one - yet!

Thank you

If you remove the lower fridge vent grille on the outside of your van, you should be able to access the fridge burner at bottom right corner of rear of fridge as you view it.

With a small artists' paintbrush dipped in meths clean out the burner the best you can. It would help if you could blow it out with an airline if poss. Then give it a try. Obviously allow the meths a few mins to dry, of course.

Hi Tentz,

Thanks for the tip about meths.

We have just come back in from the cold.

It doesn't appear to be blocked. As long as the ignitor is clicking the flame lights and as soon as it stops igniting the flame goes out. So we are thinking it must be something else.  Someone is going to test the control box for us (a mechanic who works on air conditioning) hopefully that will provide an answer.  A question as to whether it is a thermo coupling (I'm told)

We are hoping this person we'll hopefully see this week will know.

You should be able to see the thermocoupling if you can see the gas jet and flame ... it's the bit of metal that is heated by the flame. It's on the end of a thin metal tube. It works by sensing the heat from the flame. The other end of the thin tube simply connects to the gas tap / control and shuts the gas off if the bit in flame goes cold. I agree it sounds like this is problem. They're cheap and simple to fit. May need to remove the upper vent to access the gas control ?
