Hi, we've just bought a very old motorhome that needs tidying up a fair bit! At the moment we're sorting out the inside (damp probs etc..) but when we come to do the outside, i was wondering if any of you have tried "paint rollering" using combicolor paint? and if so, was it successful?
Hi, how did it turn out? I wouldn't have considerd it if it was a smooth finish (like a car) but because its "stippled" i thought it would be more "forgiving" !!
Because gloss takes a long time to dry, it too is quite "forgiving" in terms of roller marks. The downside is that it tends to attract dust and flies. I have succesfully sprayed gloss paint (thinned with petrol) but if you don't have access to a compressor and spray gun then this is not an option. Not sure how well the electric ones would do. If you do consider this option, make sure to thoroughly clean it out afterwards with thinner. I would have thought anything giving a stippled effect is going to look even worse than the brush / roller marks.
Sponge rollers (trade packs are fine) make a great job of domestic paint jobs - don't know how they would react to spirit based paints but should be fine for most paint I think. They give a finish like a spray job if you finish with a light stroke.
Those small sponge rollers that are used for radiators etc are excellent for applying paint, varnish, I'd recommend coach enamel, it dries slowly but has a lovely finish to it.
