The Transport for London website on the LEZ should be looked at :
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/default.aspx
Look at "Vehicles Affected" and "Compliance Check" and enter your Registration Number. With a 2008 vehicle you should have no problem. Jan 2012 is when the scheme starts to take effect so if you going next month it does not apply anyway so no point in worrying about registering. I think you only have to register for after Jan 12 if your vehicle is shown as not complying and you have mechanical work carried out to make it comply. Tfl need to check that this is so by the Registration process.
Cannot tell you more as I could not get some of the website downloads to work. Hopefully just a Saturday problem.
