The problem I have is when I run the freeview from 12v it is making a horrible noise and not much of a picture if one at all, but if i plug it into the electric socket then its perfect.
The 12v lead seems to be correct as in (-to the outside + to the inside) says the same on freeview box.
possible the charger is causing interferance,or something else in the 12v line .
if possible disconect battery(or use a second one) and wire box directly to it see if this makes any differance,if it does you then need to find out whats causing the interferance
Cheers for the imformation, I have connected it directly to the battery and it works perfectly, but as soon as I connect via the ciggarette lighter its noisy again. Ive never had a problem when connecting my old dvd player etc.
I have the usual ciggarette lighter on the dash and I have one fitted into my 12v system, but its making this noise when I use either.
We were getting interference on our hab.cd/radio player, which i narrowed down to only when being on hook up. It was getting like a pulsing 'click' from the charger. Ive now fit a second 'leisure' battery, charged from the onboard charger along with the main hab. battery, but with an in-line fuse, which i remove when the vans in use. No more interference!

Another long shot; is a 12 volt fluorescent light on? Had one that made our radio hum badly when on.
I have the 2 original ones, both have 2 8w tubes, they have been rewired direct from the liesure battery so I'm gonna disconnect them both and start feeling my way through all connections, see if I can eliminate the interference.
I have an inline charger that charges the liesure batteries as I drive, disconected this but still have interference on freeview.
I appreciate the suggestions so keep them coming, thanks.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
Tried a different freeview (dont belong to me) and it worked perfectly, father in law is no electrician but seems to think it needs a suppressor like what they fit for car radio's, maybe my freeview itself is picking up interference.
You will need to have a 12V regulator, the 12V from the leisure battery is not a pure 12V signal, put a meter on it and you will see it is anywhere from 14 to 12.6 The same applies to TV's you need to ensure that the equipment is fed from a stable 12V
can you not do as above and run direct from a seperate 12v battery ie 1 for lights and standard 12v fittings in van 2nd for additional items.i beleive the problem your getting is from the ciggy lighter bit but may be wrong(just ask the wife as i normaly am) but the advantages from having second battery is yould get a lot longer use from both
im in the proces of fitting extra battereys and after reading this deciced for my sittuation all i need is to run my tv/dvd/freeveiw on its own feed with a seperate 240v charger topping it up througout the day.
ive also had a simular problem with buzzing and finaly worked out the signal was far to high/strong and had to fit a UHF Attenuatorsand solved problem instantly, some boxes do the same themselves so no need for one and others have differant not so good tuners that compensate the signal gain.
theres lots of options but without ripping everything out and starting from scratch ild be looking at the simple solutions
do you have the noise when connected to the battery and the charger is on?
the problem is that your charge is not "smoothed", the AC is being transformed down to 12v ok, but the AC pulses are causing a ripple in the 12v output
with the battery and charger connected at the same time the battery should smooth the pulses out
otherwise you will maybe need a smoother, or switch the charger off
