we have a small hair-line crack in our bessacarr e425 motor home, how have anyone else got on with having repairs to theres. does the glue advertised work or are we wasting our time. Any advice appreciated.
I think it all depends where the crack actually is? Is it anywhere that you would walk on/stand on or is it sort of out of the way. The only and best repair you can achieve is if the tray can be removed altogether, and the job tackled from underneath for the best results, we did this only last year in a friend 's camper, his partner stood on it with high stiletto heels, you can imagine the damage caused, but we managed to remove the tray and working on it upside down with fiberglass matting we actually reinforced the whole area that looked rather flimsy and weak. And we even glued some wooden battens on it to make really strong. Put it back and its as good as new if not better.
Agreed. You need to get the tray out and reinforce it from below, or the crack will likely open up again. Its always worth 'trying' the shower tray when buying a van. Get someone of decent weight to stand in it, while you closely watch for any movement/sagging.
Its no different to buying a cheapo plastic tray for your home shower, (or bath for that matter) then you find it leaking as its broke the seals because its flexing when you use it.
It's true what you say about the position of the crack.
Mine was only a couple of inches long in a hidden position so I just covered it with sikaflex 512 and pumped foam under the tray to strengthen it. The marine filler looks a good idea though
Removing the tray is ideal unless like mine the toilet, sink, cupboards and shower are all built onto it and it joins the wall about a foot from the floor.
It would have to be catastrophic damage for me to attempt to remove it
If you dont mind what it looks like use glass fibre and glass resin and this will give strength and durability. Put a rug down when not using and this costs a few quid.
