Question. My leisure batteries after a very cold December held their charge OK.

Suddenly ,for no apparent reason they are dead.

WHY???

Yes, there are two connected in parallel and they are two years old.

There is no apparent drain. Everything is switched off and nothing showing on the charge/discharge meter.

I have now been on hook up for 48 hours and they show full. Will check tomorrow and let you know.

Like has been said, if the have dropped so low on charge, remove and charge from a seperate charger check the electrolyte levels too, not sure of the exact figures cause it varies across vans... but the onboard charger,s on vans are not really designed to recover deep disharged battries. You may get a full charge reading for a short period (from on board charger) but it will drop quite quick cause its just a say edging into the full charge area.

Also I know this may seem a daft point but...is it possible that you just paid more attention to it over the cold weather?(..periodically running it,sticking it on charge etc)and when it eased a little,you've just let it sit there..?

Well thanks one and all for your advice.

Going through them...No, I didn't neglect it lately. In fact I was running it every week and moving it round the site to give the tires a chance. Obviously the starter battery is ok.

I checked electrolyte and tested for discharge. Nothing showing.

I know if they are completely dead thats what they are and new ones are the only answer. Sad  but true.

Not checked today but will tomorrow and let you know.

So have checked today and they have stayed charged. Thats nearly four days!!

I DONT BELIEVE IT!! No sign of anything different.

Could the leisure batteries be topping up the starter battery if it runs down?

I,m tempted to call in a leccy to sort it out.

(...although it's probably just waiting 'til you're wildcamping in the middle of nowhere before it decides to trip you up..  )
