Ahhhh the joys of driving at 35 MPH with the smell of the engine burning behind you.
I had 2 aircooleds in the 60's and both of them caught fire.
Give me diesel now.

Just make sure all your fuel lines are new & it won't catch fire. Petrol leaks have certainly caused the demise of many an old VW but its totally avoidable. Nice van!

That really put  a smile on my face, do you know of how many of them i restored/worked on??? My first trip back home to Italy was in one of them, those were the days, no breakdown insurance or personal, two young kids and a wife that stretched herself on the floor going over the Great San Bernard pass, she just does not like mountains my mrs. And all for just 3 weeks in the sun and see my family of course. Now we have a top of the range Autosleeper and all the comforts you can think of, and it still does not feel the same. Mannaggia a miseria.

Oh my! That 'dub box' - want one!

Haha 70 mph would be down hill but frankly - i wouldnt want to go that fast in her... the lack of bonnet makes 40 feel like 60!

All the fuel lines are new, but there are still things she needs, thankfully no major work now though (yet!)

She is and always will be an on-going project but her 'quirks' are as much part of the overall enjoyment of driving/camping in her. You have to be chilled and laid back otherwise you'd just stress and get fustrated... we expect things to not be perfect which i think is a good attitude to camping anyway - even before i had Delilah, camping holidays never always went smoothly or perfect anyway - if you dont expect that - you arent disappointed.

Its like marmite i guess - you either love it or hate it - i love it - the drive is always more fun than the destination we arrive at!
