Hi All

New to the site so please be gentle

We have a motorhome - Mooveo P600 (2009) - which we hire out commercially. I understand we need to provide a valid habitation safety certificate each year.

Found someone locally to me last year to complete the first yearly check but wasnt convinced of the authenticity!

Just wondering if any members can recommend anyone of good repute in the Surrey area who could look after this for me and what I may expect to pay ??

Many thanks for your time and any responses !

Jay

Our Motorhome is due a Habitation Check. Is it worth it? The m/home is 10 years old and we got it it in Feb 2010. It has had the "Check" done on and off through the years but not every year.

It seems a lot of money: What is an average price to pay?

I think it is worth it for peace of mind personally. We sometimes have our grand children with us sleeping in it and it doesn't bear thinking about if there was a slight gas leak....

Our heater was found to be a bit faulty, nothing especially dangerous but it was good to have it mended. It helps when you come to selling on as well. At Avonbridge they take a good 3 or more hours checking it all so I don't think it's too bad a price in comparison with what garages charge per hour for labour.

Thanks for the time taking on the replies above. Have followed the advice of Wineciccio and booked in with Marquiss - now of Southampton. Found to have a good reputation online, helpful and cheery on the phone and reasonable on the cost.

£450.00 inclusive for a full second year service using original parts and habitation check. Peace of mind for a family used and commercialy let vehicle

Thanks again guys.....

We got our van at the same time,it had also been 'checked' prior to collection, and at points in the past through its previous owner. It is now pushing seven years old, and while im confident there are no actual faults on it,ive booked a mobile bloke (highly recommended by others) to come check it next month. My biggest concern is damp - and its effects if left untreated. I dont suspect for a minute that my van has any damp, but its peace of mind, with the other stuff 'okayed' thrown in, for what will be very good price.

JayH

I am not from Yorshire but HOW MUCH???

£450.00 is extortionate and any handy person with a working knowledge of motorhomes and a dampmeter could do the job for a lot less.

Shop arround for mobile lads. They have all worked in the trade before serting up on their own and in my experience give a very good deal.

Rogerangie

£450.00 covers a full 2 yr high mileage service and certified hab check.on a vehicle - Fiat 2.3 - less than 2 years old. For a commercial vehicle which takes in a few quid each year it's not a bad return for peace of mind.

And yes I guess we are paying Southern prices but you gotta love where you live !!

Can do without the vehicle breaking down in Spain which is where it has been recently !!

Sorry, my mistake. Didn't realise you included the vehicle service as well but still pretty steep. Thank goodness I don't live in your part of the world.

My last service MOT and hab. check was £230. last year..

Well just by coincidence and whilste still on the subject, i have just got an invite for a habitation check to be carried out on my camper, but alas not from marquiss but from a firm in Clitheroe where i had my camos dish fitted, guess how much???  £165,  this includes a voucher discount of £40 so the price of £125 is rather appealing. I will book it in as soon as possible.

A habitation service is checking all appliances work, checking for gas leaks, the electrics are safe & should include checking body for signs of damp. Any repair work would be chargeable extra, it would not include, for example, cleaning out fridge burner.

Whether a service centre would do the job properly is just down to trust & reputation. I suppose with a mobile fitter at your home you could watch them at work.

Anybody with reasonable ability could do the 'service' themselves, in fact you could do it 'as you go' just checking stuff regularly thruout year.

i think while the motorhome is still under warranty you have to have a hab check,i`ve recently had nearly £400 worth of warranty work carried out out,the only cost to me £110 for the check, good value i think.....if your going to have a check make sure the place is (i think) caravan council approved and you should be given a list of everything checked.
