I have a Nissan primastar van and I'm off to The Lakes for 4 days. Striding Edge is first objective. I wish to wild camp close by Glenridding with a place that will offer nice views when I wake in the morning.
I often use car parks and ensure that I leave well before tourists arrive. Any advice please.
Want to spend one night on Wrynose Pass, weather permitting. Would appreciate any info.
I am new to this site and don't understand how it works. Plse bear with me.
Thanks Robert.
hello robert, welcome to the site . cant help you with stopovers for your route , as dont know up that way. you sound like you already know how to find the best wild camp spots, those are the ones i prefer also. usually on the coast though.
you might have more luck putting a similar post in the general chat areas, as campers and caravanners might not visit the m/h forum.
I live up on the edge of the Lakes and in my opinion, if you are coming up outside of school holidays you should get tucked away quite nicely, with a bit of luck.
Along the side of Ulswater there are quite a few places to stop, but they are on the roadside (A592 Kirkstone Pass to Penrith). All the car parks around Glenridding are pay and display but you could try going for a pint at the White Lion in Patterdale and asking to stay on the car park.
There is also a parking area on the way down Kirkstone from the Troutbeck direction i.e. going North East and that stance looks down the valley towards Brotherswater. It's the view the BBC use quite often on the weather forecast. Also if you go from the Kirkstone Pass Inn down towards Ambleside you'll find a nice wee hideaway on the left, near to the quarry entrance.
As for Wrynose, the best parking to be had is close to the summit or at the summit by the Three Shire Stone. Nice place to start a walk to Cinkle Craggs and Bowfell incidentally.
All of the above depends on the Park Wardens leaving you alone, but if you are there late and leave early, either in the van or for a walk you should be o.k.
Hope this helps.
