May've missed you already..but just make sure that the seller/dealer shows you EVERYTHING working before you drive off....

Don't just let them point at the controls, whilst telling what they should do..you actually need to see things working!(..all appliances,be they gas or electric, the water system, all gauges etc)

Have fun!

I'd second that.  When you begin the handover, ask the dealer to turn on the van's internal heating and hot water system.

Our Webasto diesel heater was faulty, and because I didn't know what to expect. I took the vehicle without realising there was a problem.

The handover usually takes more than an hour, and by this time you should have piping hot water.

Also, check the fridge ignites easily and the hob flame burns cleanly without and spluttering.

It may seem like overkill, but it's worth getting your partner to video the handover, so that you have a record of everything for future reference.

Ditto above, about getting the salesman to show you everything working. We had a basic intro, and found other things in the van that we didn't know we had, (like air suspension points behind the drivers seat).
Also, my view on blinds is buy the internal type, can be fitted and removed in whatever the weather.
Ideal for Wildcamping, to move on if needed.
Can't be damaged or stolen if on the inside of the van.
Cheaper, and never get wet if it is raining outside, so can be stored away with no problems.
We have found that ours with the suckers on the inside do not condensate the screen either.
I certainly believe the external ones look neater though!

Well - we had the handover today, everything working fine  - though don't think that I'll remember it though - the van is now safetly with the mechanic who is also an avid motorhomer and is now carrying out a complete service - new cam belt etc - now I've just got to wait till we get it back

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, I am sure that I'll have plenty more questions soon enough

Can't wait to start camping - First & second camp will be at Dads farm - 5 mins away, where we will have access to water & EHU and Internet (just incase I need to call on you all)

Thank you again

Sheila

Well done!

What is it exactly?...also did it come with all the handbooks and instructions?

(..although sometimes the handbook issued by the "Converter" can be a little generic and doesn't always showing you how yours' works.. )

..if not it may be worth spending a little time online and checking if the appliance manufacturers(for the fridge/water heater/battery charger etc) have the facility for you to download them?

One other thing..try not to get carried away buying that "must have" accessory..as we've found that most of 'em end up getting stuffed in the loft!

Burstner A530 - 4 Berth - 2006 - 56 Plate - Came with a mountain of handbooks & CD for a German Sat Nav (never used be previous owner)  - Don't think my High School German will go too far either

2600 miles on the clock, still like new inside - been out on 6 trips in 5 years!! - The previous owner had never been camping/had a van before this one - brought because they had always wanted one for their retirement and unfortunately (for them) circumstances meant that they didn't have the time/opportunity to use it as they thought they would.

The MH came with Fiamma awning & privacy room, sleeping bags, cushions ~ plus the important bits like corkscrew/wine stopper  All pots / pans / cutlery / melamine / acrylic glassware / fire blanket  /extinguisher / cleaning fluids / water container, hook up even loo rolls!

We don't need to buy anything apart from a waste water container - suggestions?? - I know Go Outdoors have one on sale between 18th - 20th April £29.99 (RRP £55) for a 'Royal' Waste Warrior 40 litre capacity - no idea whether this will be any good??

Have spent a number of days now with that feeling of dread every time I think of the phrase, 'if it sounds too good to be true..............'

But have been reassured by the mechanic who is working on the new cam belt as we speak   - Can't wait to get my hands on it - Only problem now is ~ do we get rid of the tents???????

Very nice!.and they certainly left you with loads of "stuff"..

As for a waste container,we've never used one but £30 doesn't sound that bad, although it may be worth just having a quick look in the Free Ads at the top of the page,as there are some in there.

(..but there again, when it's only 30 quid for a new 'un,it doesn't really seem worth the hassle... )

If 2006 makes it the current Fiat model,it would be worth ensuring that it's had any of the relevent reverse gear mods...some of the current Fiat/Peugeot base vehicles have trouble reversing up slopes, without "juddering".

(..that's assuming it is on a Fiat??  )

I would have thought that a newer model like yours would have had a waste container built in?

Well,I did wonder why Shelia was asking that...but I just assumed they were after something for when they couldn't get the van to a drain-point..

Wasting your money with internal......Internal...wake up to condensation especially on the windscreen, External...wake up more or less condensation free.

Correct - was thinking that when we are parked up on site it's simpler to use those waste wheely things than pack up the privacy room/awning just to move to the waste disposal point - don't intend to be moving the van on and off the site (if we can help it)

Still waiting for the mechanic to start working on it - starting to sulk now

................ as to internal vs external silverscreens - I think after all of your replies it seems to be a matter that is personal to each - I get the feeling that if we put up a poll it would end up 50 - 50

Hi in our previous motorhome we had the fitted remIs blinds in the cab, we also just used the external screen when really cold in winter and found that ideal.

When we got our 2009 Burstner it didn't have the fitted blinds internally, but the pop on interior ones, I really missed the fitted ones as you could block out the sun/neighbours etc with one blind if needed.

We decided to fork out the cash and have the fitted interior blinds again.....installed by Camper UK at Lincoln.

To be honest most of the time we now use these again, and it has to. Be very cold for us to bother with the exterior screen, mostly cos I can't stand being cooped in all day so it's a clat taking them on and off......esp when it's wet, I can't see us using the exteriors again now until at least next Nov.

Not sure if the original pop on ones would fit your motorhome.....but I won't want a lot for them when I put them on Ebay.
