We currently have 7 seatbelts in our Motorhome and would like one more fitted. There are currently 2 in the front, 2 x 3 point forward facing in the dinette and 1 x rear facing lap belt, and 2 lap belts at the rear, forward facing. We want to put another lap belt (rear facing) in the dinette and the holes are there for it etc so we wonder why it wasn't fitted in the first place.

The only potential problem we can see ourselves is that the gas locker is partly under the seat so we're not sure how the other side of the seat belt would be fixed and maybe that's why it wasn't done in the first place

We had seatbeltservice.co.uk look at it whilst it was still at the dealers and they said it can be done and quoted £138 for the lap belt fitted which we think is a bit steep. The dealer wouldn't allow them to fit it there either so on top of that we would have a £28 callout charge to our address. We're also worried how they were going to put it in (as we weren't present) and whether they might have attempted to loop the seatbelt back to the same fixing point to avoid the gas locker, which we don't feel would be right.

Does anyone have any experience of this please and can anyone recommend anyone to supply and fit in the Essex area? Its the Ford Kentucky Camp Estro 4 that we have

Many thanks

Lucy

Why do you need seat belts in the rear facing seats may i ask, its only the forward ones that its a requirement as far as know, in my talisman i have carried my 3 grandkids, the  oldest seats facing forward in the dinette area and the other 2 facing backward ie, behind my drivers seat, if i break suddenly nothing is going to happen to them ie. the back of the seat will not allow them to go anywhere but against their own seat.

Er because I am extremely concerned about the safety of my children!

I would NEVER allow anyone, child or otherwise to travel without a seatbelt regardless of what the law says. Apart from their own safety, they are also a missile in the event of an accident and could seriously injure or even kill other occupant

Before you go and turn your motorhome into an eight seater, it might be worth checking your driving licence and insurance. most licences allw you to drive with seven people onboard, but i believe that eight and above you have to take another test for an upgrade, and your insurance company may view the carrying of extra passengers as overcrowding, leaving your policy null and void.

The reason why i question this is because our daughter drives an adapted minibus for her work with autistic adults, and when the van was new, they had to have one of the seats removed and it re-registered with the DVLA as a seven seater so that all staff with car licences could continue to drive it without taking another test.

Thanks Julia, I never even considered that. It may even be one of the reasons why our newly purchased 2008 motorhome only has 7 seatbelts. We couldn't understand why a 4th one wasn't fitted in the dinette area.

I will look into it. It's not essential for us, but we are a family of 6 and would like to take my parents out with us so were exploring the possibilities

I looked into this and from all the info I can find, this applies to vehicles equipped to carry more than 8 passengers? so up to 8 we should be ok?
