Just got back last night from my first trip in the part-converted van. it was excellent. had bed, cooker, fridge and heater, but no running water. the heater worked very well, keeping us nice and toasty on the lowest setting, and the van performed very well too. The v8 meant that it could easily go up a 20% hill in 2nd gear. automatic and power steering made it very easy to drive and manoeuvre as well. I'll sort out the water tanks in the next couple of weeks and then it's off to Scotland.
Jeremy.

Glad you had a good 1st trip Jeremy, our van is not ready yet either, but have used it twice, sounds like we are at about the same stage as you, we used a large bottle for water, after all its only like tent camping with a few extra luxuries (and warmth).  Haven't quite decided whether to go for onboard water system, or just do it like a caravan with aquaroll and submersible pump for now, as we have all this stuff already from when we had a caravan, and we've spent too much this year!!!  Hope you have a great time in Scotland.

Cheers, I've already got the water tank, 70l fiamma tank for £40 or thereabouts. We'll also have a couple of 30 litre jerrycans for topups or whatever. We're keeping it onboard as we're not afraid of winter and don't like the idea of the tanks freezing up.

I have used both methods, the LDV had no onboard water when I got it, but being ex police it had a large extra water tank for high powered washers.

I extended the switch into the living area, and replaced the water pipes that went to the windscreen, with ones that fed the taps. Works brilliant, also have the waste pipe just dropping out the bottom of the van, and when in site I stick a waste drum underneath it.

I find the onboard water a lot easier, even fo rsimple things like stopping anywhere and being able to wash your hands etc.

The Fiat already had its own huge tank fitted, and waste tanks, but i just leave  the drain undone unless I am on site.

We too have just got back from our first outing in our new van.

Warm as toast with a small oil filled radiator running off the hook up. Did not bother with filling the water tanks as we were only away for a night.

Excellent site too, well recommended on this site, at Glastonbury.

Any ideas for the next outing (27th december for 4 nights)? MUST be near a pub.

Sandra

Thanks Borderacz, but I think we have decided to join some friends in either the New Forest or Devon.

Maybe next time.
