Hi Chiltern Turner, I realise your thread is a couple of months old, but I have just broken a lock catch on my Heki 2 skylight on my caravan. I see that the two side brackets are screwed onto the perpex dome, but can you tell me how you replaced the gas cylinder mounting rivets, and the metal lift arm rivets please? I suppose the obvious answer would be with bolts, but did you have a better idea, and how easy is it to do the repair? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Woodman, it's easier than it looks to replace the unit. Using a small screwdriver or similar tool, prise off the captive washer and just push the pins out. The gas strut and lift arm are done in the same way, the gas strut does not expand when loosened. When I got my replacement units there were only a half set of pins and washers supplied, so keep an eye on where the washers land. The actual repair to the old catch was done by drilling into the push button and securing the catch with a self-tapper and suitable washer. I did source another new set of brackets, so my origional units are available, one good one and one repaired one (usable) I live in S/Essex, so if your interested please give your phone or e-mail address, I am a very cautious person. p.s where does the craftywoodman name come from, I'm into woodturning.

Hi again, thanks for the info, I haven't actually got my replacement brackets yet, but should only take a few days to arrive. Just trying to weigh the job up before-hand. With the details that you have given me, it sounds very straight forward. Regarding the "craftywoodman" thing, I too am into woodturning, as well as anything else with the wood craft ( although I have to admit that I didn't have a great deal of success with wood carving !! ), hence the craftywoodman. Thanks again...........Nick
