Hi all,
I bought a 1979 Transit CI, two years ago. Haven`t been anywhere in it yet, Anyway,I posted a message some time ago, and had a very nice reply from Billy.
Earlier this year, I had a problem with the heater. (2.4 York diesel engine.) Investigation, showed that the connection to the block via the pipe to the heater marix, was blocked- off with a wooden plug???? The insert into the block was broken off. Had all that fixed. But the heater output was poor. I flushed the system to no avail. Then the engine began to overheat. Local garage advised the water-pump was u/s, so I booked it in for replacement. Then the really bad news, the cylinder-head was cracked. I bought a replacement engine on Ebay, but due to delays etc, never received it. I then bought a replacement cylinder-head, only to be told by the garage that it was the wrong type. (something to do with the injectors and combustion chamber). The van has now been in the garage since June. Told yesterday that a partial refund for the wrong head is imminent. Now in negotiations for another cylinder-head.
I had no idea, that there were so many variants of engine for Transits of that vintage. The camper itself is in good condition, and I would be loathed to sell it...had an offer for it with/without MOT.
Hopefully, if all goes well, I should be `on the road` shortly.
We had always been camping previously, but failing health for both of us, needed a remedy. This seemed to be such a wonderful idea, if I knew before of the hassle that I have had, I would still be under canvas. Two years without a break in the wilderness is not on.
I found out that the engine number is DJ160080, wondering if this odd or something?
Regards,
Dave & Jenny.
