I understand one has to turn off the gas on the tank when travelling on channel tunnel. Have now discovered how to do this. Have heard all sorts of stories about checking whether it is on or off when boarding. Anyone have any advice on this please?
Ta muchly in advance.
We have a VW with underslung LPG tank. This is LPG from which to operate the fridge/cook on.
Every time they ask us to show it is turned off and also no more than 80% full. If they do pull you out they will motion for you to go over to a little bay and check the gas, then place a sticker or make a mark on the cardboard boarding pass you have to show on your rear view mirror.
As has been stated LPG fuel for which to run your vehicle off is not allowed in the tunnel or indeed other tunnels on the continent eg Mont Blanc.
Squirrelchops, do they actually crawl under the van with you to turn it off? We had intended turning it off before we leave home. I don't want to appear too undignified, must remember to wear trousers. My husband can't get under van due to medication.
And, re the 80 percent full thing, we have a small indicator showing up to 4 lights in the cab. Presumably should show only 3??
The tank will stop filling at 80% anyway itself. 80% is the maximum you can put into an LPG tank - it's the same with my car, so although the gauge shows 4 lights but it is 80% full.
If your tank taps are in a quite inaccessible place they will ask you to double check with them present so they don't get dirty themselves.
