Hello,
We are just in the process of buying our first MH (second hand, collect next week)
We want a tv and were wondering if any of you have brought or know anything about satellite dishes, how effective are they, how far through Europe do youpick up UK programmes etc. Any advice/help will be gratefully received and appreciated.
Thank you.

Well to start with don't go spending £1000 on a roof mounted jobbie. scrounge a digi box off someone, next go get a tri pod, 30ft of coax, external aerial socket sat finder + most important if your going overseas a large sat dish 60cm i think.

ps i will go have a look on evilbay see what i can find

This is what you need dish wise ebay 28064170618 small mini dish wont work in Europe
One of these is a must too sat finder ebay 260807079322
As you can see if you scrounge a box you can have sky tv for less than £100
Oh & you will need a viewing card from sky costs £20 so you can get channel 5, but if you can live without this the box will still work without a card
Lastly never ever tell SKY it's in a Motorhome or Caravan, as you will get a loada grief

Hi we have an automatic 85cm system on our van roof and using a SKY box and viewing card could receive ITV1 & Channel5 which meant Missus had Corro and Emmerdale while we were at LA Manga , Cartegna Spain

Depends where in Europe you want to go and whether you use FTA or Sky. I don't have Sky but with an 80cm dish on a tripod I have got all UK programmes as far east as Lubeck in Germany and in the Italian Lakes. Even when we have run out of UK main programmes we can usually still get BBC News (24) and the BBC Streams which meant we were able to watch the Grand Prix's as far east and north as Rugen Island in north/east Germany on our recent trip.

We have a tripod system for sale if you are interested, have had it in the shed for the last few years. Have a fully automatic jobby - brilliant.
We haev a Sky box, as well as a zehnder receiver, means you can get best of both worlds and more channels you can shake a stick at. Not sure why you want all the channels as I prefer to be outside,
Look at oadpro, they have a great section on TVs & Sats. Can recomend them as well

Thank you all for your very helpful/useful comments.
We also like to be outside but as Val points out over winter it is nice to catch up with current events and the odd film of a dark evening.
Like I say, we have only just bought our MH and this is all new territory for us, having just used most of our savings on the MH, we don't want to waste what little we have by rushing out and buying something that may not be right for us.
Thanks to Andy-M for his offer to purchase his old equipment, but for now, until we know exactly what we need, we will hold fire. This was more an exercise into prior knowledge from other members. Invaluable as it is unbiased, tried and tested.
Best Wishes
Travel Safe
