hi there am trying to book pitches for a little jaunt in a hired motorhome in august - its a modern motorhome so am keen to make use of all the luxuries eg elec and having a shower/ poo without trecking to a big hey listen to me poo toilet block.  So do i just need ehu or do i not even need ehu ?  can i use my shower and toilet on site without it being connected to water and if so where does the water go - how do you rid of it?  im a bit confudled tbh.

waste water goes into waste tank which you must then empty
and also remember to refill the fresh water tank

frankly, if you're on a decent site and paying for the facilities then use them
apart from avoiding the hassle of emptying everything the water pressure is almost certainly lots better

you'll need ehu if you're planning on giving the on-board electrics some hammer - rather depends on what you've got

self contained motorhomes only really come into their own - in the UK - when it's pouring down

if you go to the mainland then you can wildcamp - or use Aires - but then so are so of lots of other stonking great vans - usually upsetting the locals in the process when they can no longer see the sea for line after line of oversized white vans

to be honest - don't really see the point of the big outfits with all the accoutrements of home
but each to their own

It all depends on how much washing and showering you intend doing and how big your water tanks are.
We always fill up on site and empty before leaving,no point in carrying extra weight around with you.
To be honest if I were you I would use the site facilities, after all your paying for them and its less cleaning of the van before you return it

When you hire this 'van' you will be shown just how everything works...sometimes the important things are ommited.Like when you hook up(incidently I suggest you do) You should switch of the electrics first, then hookup and then switch em all back on ( like a circuit breaker) I dont recomend travelling with a full tank of fresh water, most journeys to a site will never need more than 4 litre of water so buy a bottle that size from a supermarket. Your freshwater tank in a hire van should not be used for drinking by the way.The water you use will go to holding tank (grey water waste) and should be deposited on leaving site(Fuel costs remember) Not sure why anyone needs a shower anyway...but use the site facilities, to save embarassment put a paper bag on you head when leaving. Everyone has to go to the loo you know. The loo has to be emptied to travell, as a cassette more than 1/2 full is likely to perform a fountain of s..t over the person who dares to use it for any pit stop you make. Ask for a book on the motorhome you are going with. Its not all that daunting honest. Plus if you camp anywhere (Wild camp) that has no EHU you will have to move sometime to charge up batteries. You need enough power in vehicle battery to start engine, so use the leisure battery, it will run down after a while , depends what you run on it how long it will last? I am a beliver that men should NOT design kitchens in motorhomes...they never use those. And here is a man scared of the Bog. and shower. Just remember do not drink the water from the tank!

Be daring and leave a couple of days free and then use a non facility site and see just how easy it is to manage without all the paraphernalia of home. You will soon learn just how much water you may use. In a non facility site your grey waste water ie washing up etc is tipped in the hedge usually at the request of the farmer. Helps with drought and trees love your waste water. You will be provided with a toilet waste disposal facility.

You will find beautiful sites and feel totally self sufficient mingling with nature.

they are saying not to drink out of your taps, as you have no idea whats been in the tank or even if its ever been sterilised, if it was your own van and you new about the freshwater tank then by all means drink it.
