Hi

Sorry to come late to this post but just joined this forum and we are looking for a drive away awning!

We have a VW T5 with a pop top - so nowhere to attach an awning.

Nora - can the one you bought be used without a guttering or fixing kit as Tigermouse's one can?

Thanks

Barbara

There are several options available to you. e.g.

Riemo multi rail http://www.reimo.com/en/90157-x/
is an option, but is quite expensive.

Brandrup do a similar thing.

Another option is the California awning rail. Buy from your VW dealer. Looks great, works great, and cost around £100 for the parts.

Also depending on your roof you can attaché figure of 8 to the roof and use a Kador gusset

Hi, I don't know if this is of any help - but I read on a forum in regard to attaching drive away awning - (without any special kits) someone said they used roof magnets and it worked. The type are rubber based and can be purchased on ebay. I am new to this myself and have bought a drive away awning and the magnets & am awaiting arrival of both, can't say that they will work but can give it a try - bearing in mind the magnets hold signs etc on car rooves whilst they are being driven, so should stand up to some windy weather.

Anybody got any comments?

I suppose magnets are all very well if you're reasonably tall and/or have no trouble reaching the roof of your vehicle, but as my van is big and I'm less than 5ft I've no chance! lol

Pop Tops are generally made of non metallic materials, i.e. GRP (glass reinforced plastic). Magnets don't stick very well.

Suction cups can also be used.
