Hi

Has anybody had any experence of  "engine starters", where a combined battery with charger, compressor and 12 volt power supply are all in one unit and if neccessary can jump start an engine if the battery has gone flat. Are they any good and how long do they last when used as an external power supply?

regards

Hi Carter

They usually have something like a 17ah battery fitted (last one I looked at was 17Ah), so the answer is not long at all, the reality is that if you want the battery to last you should not use more than 8.5 ah andf thats if its fully charged.

Hi

17ah is not a lot! It's a wonder they can start anything at all.

Hi Carter

Ah is power over time

even if it takes 3 seconds at 200 Amps to start your vehicle

200 Amps divide by 60 mins = 3.333

Divide again By 20 to give 3 seconds worth is 0.17 of an Amp Hour (rounded)

Its the Starting current that counts

George

bought one of these and to be honest I think they are next to useless for a motorhome (as an aid to starting anyway). My wife's citoen xantia had a flat battery the other week...I thought 'oh good ...I can try that new gadget now....useless...apparently they are only good for light petrol engines..regards slaphead
