We have a VW 25 and no problems with battery draining. My uneducated guess is that you have something on and perhaps it is worth a look at thezig panel(electric s) in the van to check? Are you need a VW/campervan /motorhome dealer to get them to check? Taht'd be my next port of call. Hope this helps.

Alarms...cig lighter chargers...rear cameras (ok - maybe not in a VW van)... hab radio/cd players, all sorts can drain the juice if left 'on'.

My camper had a similar problem. Got a new van and leisure battery and spent a fortune on auto electricians trying to get to the root of the problem. Thought we had it fixed but it turned out no. Gave up spending money on diagnostics and bought two of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MARINE-CAMPER-CAR-TRUCK-ANTI-THEFT-BATTERY-TERMINAL-/360370887794?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM&hash=item53e7c75c72 and attached them to the van and leisure batteries.
I can now turn off both batteries when camper is at home and when I'm taking the camper out I turn them on and its all systems go !
Hope this is of help to you.
Its also a good anti theft gadget too.

I cant work out how that battery device solves a 'drain' problem, if it maintains juice to all the electrics outside the starter?

Yeah as above, you haven't really solved the problem, i would be inclined to find out what the drain is and of what? Are we talking amps/milliamps, get hold of a good voltage meter, and undo the negative battery clamp, now attach the meter set on low volts and see what the drop in volts is, obviously i forgot to mention to meausre the battery voltage first, and note it down and then carry out the above test, if the test shows a drop in voltage then its a matter of being very patient and try each fuse at the time to establish the cause of the drain, do not forget to also check any after market item that has been fitted such as alarm, lights or whatever, hope this helps and let us know if you solve the problem

Hi, i can tell you that a lot of motorhomes/campers have a cut off button, i find mine near the door that you use when camping. (not the cab doors) this will stop the battery drain. I dont know why but you cant leave them turned on, or you will kill the battery. I think it might be new electrics that have been fitted to to newer campers and power will flow all the time. I killed 2 batteries before i worked this out and talking to others, the problem is with almost every camper/moterhome i know. I hope that helps.
