Considered to be new to this game, as we have been motorhome owners for just 3 years. I am not even sure that INSURANCE is an allowable discussion point on this forum? However here goes (will or will not get replies to this?)New motor home 3 years ago, and insured with company X. Traded in, in July this year for another brand new motorhome.Paid the extra at time of purchase on the remaining months of existing insurer, and that is about to run out. Aproached insurer Y for a quote and it is £175.00 LESS! For what appears to be almost identical cover except the excess charge, as far as I am able to see. Size ,weight, etc not a problem or any difference at all. Question. Are quotes automatic, are they negotiable  ie. can you get certain parts of the cover offered removed? If you can tell us what service you have had from your insurer in the event of breakdowns, accident, or even just a flat tyre, we would be most pleased to hear from you. Just because we have been with someone for only 3 years, we are not sure we want to be ripped off, never having made a claim for anything etc. Await your responses and would be pleased to get any at all.

You should shop around for insurance quotes every yr at renewal time. You existing insurer will generally load your premium in the hope you will not shop around. When you find a cheaper quote, inform your existing insurer & they will often price match, if not go with the cheaper quote.

There is not reward for loyalty to your existing insurer, the cheaper premiums for new customers are subsidised by existing customers who don't bother to shop around. Use comparison websites such as confused.com or just get online quotes from various companies.

Try SafeGuard, We have just had a right good result.
We were with CC paying approx £600 and got the renewal last week stating a 10% increase (again approx)
SafeGuard for the same cover is £440 and includes FULL AA breakdown cover, No claims protection & the usual legal cover.
The Best thing is that the breakdown policy includes 365 days European cover which covers over sized motorhomes like our's (tag axle over 8 mtrs long and heavier than 3500 kg) This year that type of cover cost us £180 for 31 days for France.
So.... result

I am insured with Sureterm, I have needed to make a claim due to an accident I had with a grass bank of my own doing.

The value was just shy of £7000 (thousand) for the repairs and I had no problems at all. I picked the repair place myself (supplying dealer) and it has all gone fine.

I was expecting some weaseling and hinderance by the insurance firm to be honest and there has been none.

Ben
