My favourite (given the cash, skill and time) would be a tri-axle Ducato or a wide body renault PTS bus

both would have over 6ft width for that fixed double bed

just started on an ex prison service 7.5 ton Iveco, so far it's taken me 4 day's just to strip out the cells etc, it's a good box on the back that is fully insulated (sides / ceiling and floor) ideal for conversion to a motorhome,

at least with a 7.5tonne box van youve got vertical walls, and a payload enough to use household units, no wall profiles to cut

Thats true ukstevie, although I won't be buying houshold units I'll be making them all myself, It will be a novelty for me to build on something that is "straight". I build specialist conversions on all types of vehicle for a living within the family business, caravanettes, St Johns, Fire brigade, Ambulance etc, so it will be a bit of a busmans holiday for me. To be honest the inside of the box is pretty much a similar size to the Ace Supreme Twinstar caravan that we currently use so I think will be trying to get more or less the same layout in there, but with a bit more storage, just waiting on materials now so I can start the build.

ukstevie, not possible unless you can sleep standing up, beleive me those cells are tiny.

delboydriver, anything is possible, the trucks are pretty cheap to buy and low mileage etc as a rule, this one had air con fitted in the rear plus two Eberspacher heaters and a small fridge. would put some pictures on here but can't figure out how

you can upload 3 images to your gallery, otherwise you need hosting (like photobucket) and use the image URL as a link, or "insert image" using that yellow mountain icon just above this box

not at the moment, to be honest that suits us, I did think about creating a walk through but decided we could live without it as with the layout that we want there will be L shape seating across the front bulkhead and down the off side

theres the problem of making the walkthru waterproof too, and being able to tilt the cab to access the big noisy thing under it
