How long is too long........

We are currently looking round for our first camper van and wonder how long it is reasonable for a dealer to have a van in stock?

Have visited a few dealers and checked out some vans, have also been keeping an eye on websites so have noticed some vans coming into stock and being sold within a month or two. 

We recently checked out a van at a large dealer and thought it looked a good buy (certainly the sort of thing we are looking for) so expect it to go long before we are ready to buy (next year sometime......hopefully), however I was recently flicking through an old magazine and noticed that the same van being advertised at the same dealer for the same price over 12 months ago!!

Is this normal?  I realise that because of the prices involved and the nature of the industry stock turnover is likely to be slow but should I be worried about a vehicle that has spent so long on a dealer's book?

Perfectly normal to see vehicles held for a long time, peoples expectations of product display and condition and description etc vary grately , Plus not everyone has a pocket full or the monthly disposable income to afford a nice top end motorhome so you will get what is referred to in the trade of selling motorvehicles be they cars vans motorhomes etc a selection of STICKERS.

Makes sense, high price product = low volume turnover and vice versa.

Just made me think really.

Strangely the vehicle we were looking at was at an indoor showroom (even thought it wasn't one of their expensive £20-30k+ vehicles) so it is possible that it has sprent at least a year of it's life in a cosy showroom with no mileage increase, hope this wouldn't have an adverse effect on engine etc.

no get the dealer to service and mot it etc and job done buy a good warantee to cover any problems .

the only issue will be that your vehicle will be the older spec compaired to the new vehicles, but saying that there is only so much stuff you can change from year to year.

You should not have any concern, as long as you get the proper warranty fro the dealer. you should get a good deal if it has been on the forcourt for a long time

Usually they re standing on hard ground so no issue, they will not have been used so no heating up and cooling down to create damp either.

Do check tyres though if been stood for a very long time, and also the gas pipes as they have best before dates.
