We are considering a new Tribute T-620 built on a Ford Transit Chassis for our first Motorhome. However we have been given conflicting advice on MPG.

Would appreciate any info from experienced Motorhomers.

Thanks

A lot of it depends on you, and how you drive it. Driving at 60 rather than 70mph on the motorway will make a big difference to your fuel consumption.

Thanks for that. I have been told by one person that I will not get any more than 20-23 MPG which seems very low to me with a 2.2 ltr 115 bhp Euro 5 engine. 6 speed gearbox.

Full consumption will be a big issue for us as we will be off to the South of France and then Spain later on.

Appreciate any further info on this.

I think that you will continue to get conflicting advice!!

Only someone with the same vehicle will give you a rough idea then, as already suggested it's how you drive.

I get low 20s driving in my usual car-driving style but can get anything between 25 on normal roads and 29 on the motorway if I drive carefully (you know, the way you were taught!) and stick around 50 mph. I've got an old van though.

I think it's as much about driving style and speed as anything and even someone with the same van will have a different driving style and get different fuel consumption.

I have a Fiat Ducato 2.3 110 bhp Overcab model and I have kept a log for 2 years of the miles per fill. I always fill to the brim.

http://www.motorhomefacts.com/showmotorhome-277.html

24.92mpg over 7000 miles

Most overcabs tend to be around this area, low profiles head towards 30mpg.

There is a guy with a Transit 2.2 overcab Chausson in the mpg listings that looks to get 29mpg, however when you look in the day to day records there is one at 45mpg which doesn't add up (unless he was going downhill for 300 miles)

Overcab motorhomes are not aerodynamic in the slightest and the overhang creates more drag from the turbulence.

...so in 2 years I have filled up 24 times. Total cost £1576.65 and covered 7128 miles.

This means that it costs £0.22p a mile to drive the van.

I have had 79 nights away in the MH in these 2 years though inc 2 trips for summer hols to France.

If you work on 22p a mile for your trip you won't be far out.

Calais - St Tropez - 1160miles = £255 to get there (excl tolls)

If you are talking about the Transit MK 7 2,2 then you are being mislead by all, it has cruise control/on board trip computer, and i have been away about 7 times now in mine, mostly local rallies ie, 20 to 30 miles away, but the one i really  want to tell you is now and then i go down south to see my kids and grandkids, a toatl trip of 450 miles there and back, and my fuel average was 27/29 and 32 miles to the gallon, that is driving mostly with the cruise control on at 55 miles per hour, the vehicle is a hobby siesta on a ford 2.2 mk7 130 hp, and even with my old talisman 2.8 tdi. going down to Spain i averaged around  27. to the gallon.

Thanks for all the answers, sounds as if I will have to change my driving habits to save fuel.

Reckon on a good 25+ and you wont be far out. There are too many variables to be precise, even with two identical vans.

Dont carry too much water is a tip worth noting. Each 4.5 lites = a gallon = just short of 10LBS of weight. Best to fill up with water at your destination as opposed to fuel!

And, keep the tyres at the right pressures.
