Potential new Motorhomer never driven a Motorhome before or anything bigger than a pick-up truck. trying to decide which model to buy with length in mind. Have been looking at vans around 20/21 ft. However to give more of a choice now looking at around 23 ft. as well. Would appreciate opinion if extra couple of feet would matter to a novice from a driving/road handling perspective.
The difference is between the pick-up and something a fair bit bigger, not a couple of extra foot tagged on the end. The '23 footer' wont be a problem once you get the hang of the width part for positioning. And obviously the height in some places - but they are all roughly the same height, so the same applies. If you are a confident driver, it wont take long to adjust. The main 'problem' you'll find is getting parked on the road. Which can be a pain in the arse.
That extra couple of feet won't make much difference in general - at 20 feet you're already too long and wide for most car parking bays.
But if you lived in my house, 20 feet is about it due to the narrow road and driveway - another 3 feet would mean hitting the wall every time whilst turning in and out.
If you have the space for it then I wouldn't worry.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Not sure if weight comes into it if you passed your test after 1997.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
