wye borough council is going to open an aires in lytham this year for motorhomes only which will be based on the french system,if it is a sucess it will be made perament.lets hope it not abused as this could lead to other towns following suite.use public transport to go into blackpool or use the shops in the area and may this be the start of something we,ve always wanted.

This sounds interesting - any idea where they are going to be? Although I don't like Blackpool I do like the Lytham/St. Annes area very much and very have a drive out there on Sundays to walk the dogs on the beach. An overnight stop on a weekend would be great

It will be based on the carpark behind the swimming pool, seaviews apparently and out of sight of the local residents.

It'd be great if this caught on!

(..let's just hope someone doesn't mess it up!)

A while back, there was l-o-a-d-s of "comments" on here about Blackpool supposedly "banning" campervan/Mh etc from parking the prom...Do we reckon this is all part of the same "intergrated plan"...?(..although I would assume they're probably different boroughs?)

(.and do we reckon that those previous,10plus pages of moans, will now be evened out by the same number of "praises"? ...umm..I wonder..)

No, they all come under Fylde Borough Council, which covers a very large area

No this is incorrect Fylde only covers lytham St. Annes and surrounding area.  Blackpool council parking is covers from Squires Gate to Anchorsholme.  Then Wyre Council covers part of Anchorsholme, cleveleys and Fleetwood.  Lytham anemd St. Annes don't want Motor Homes on the prom that is why this new scheme is being introduced.

Its surprising what austerity will bring to cash straped councils, wonder what they will dream up for an overnight fee ?

Unfortunatly the one down Dawlish was closed through lack of planning permission

Personaly I would not touch the Blackpool area, even if it was free.

The thing is though, although only just down the road from Blackpool, Lytham and St.Annes are a world away from it. I wouldn't go to Blackpool itself, it seems to attract a lot of chavs and rough types, but I love going to Lytham and St. Annes. Much quieter, more genteel - I think a lot of the residents are retirees from other areas - with nice pedestrian shopping areas, lovely promenade gardens, dunes, pleasant boating lake, nice cafes, and of course the windmill. Believe me, I wouldn't go unless it was nice.

We need to keep reminding people that unless there are overnight facilities motorhomers will only go for the day, we would not stay in hotels, but if there was somewhere to stay overnight in our vans even at a modest cost then we would be likely to spend on an evening meal or a trip to the pub. Hoteliers are not losing trade because they wouldn't have had the trade to start with.

The charge needs to be sensible though, the scheme did not work in Bournemouth because they set the overnight chaarge at £20 which is more than a campsite.

If we want this to work then we must be pro-active in showing how it can help the local area including clearing up rubbish even if we are not responsible for making it. It need everyones help to create a good image.

I am a regular day visitor to St Annes but would stay overnight sometimes on a suitable site.

I have only been to Lytham once but it was such a delightful place I would happily visit again if I could stay overnight.

When will it start? I would use it for the Open Golf Championship in July.

Latham is a lovely place.
