Although I did not wild camp alot last year I find after three years my leisure battery is no longer holding the charge I purchased a new one from E Bay and fitted same but having looked at the free space in the area I am considering linking another any advice on this procedure guys and gals

Just connect them in parallel i.e. positive to positive and negative to negative, with a suitably heavy wire. I used 30A, but I don't have a split charger to get engine charging. Ideally they should be of the same power capacity, although I have a 110A/hr and an 85A/hr connected together with no problems.

As stated above they should be the same capacity otherwise one will charge/dischagre quicker and can cause problems

Thanks for the info just chatting to a mate about it and he said if I was wanting two batteries for longer time camping without electric then you have to put something in the linking as all I have achieved in strapping two batteries together is an increase in amps they will both run down together he suggested a switch of some kind so that when one has gone flat you switch to the other

2 identical batteries connected in parallel will double amp/hrs, ie doubling both amps & life before going flat. Amp/hrs is a measurement of battery capacity so a given piece of equipment will run twice as long with 2 batteries in parallel, which is what you want.

Its pointless connecting the batteries if you are basically going to use them one at a time. Hooking them in parallel will see them run down at the same time, but should last twice as long as a single battery.

I fitted an extra battery to my Ducato. A few points.

2  identical batteries of the same age are better.

Having wired the batteries in parellel its better to take the live from one battery and the neutral from the other.

Unless very  short and no chance of shorting the live lead joining both batteries shoud be fused at both ends.

From memory I believe 6mm cable was the correct size, but please resarch this more.

I think its only 6 mil that feeds off mine into the charger. So id say this was big enough to join the batteries.

Guys, I'm no expert, so I'm only reporting this: our leisure battery cover is in the attic because the previous owner changed the small leisure battery for a much bigger one so it would last longer on his fishing trips (or so he said). Wires same, we haven't had any problems.
