Hi all, can anyone help with my problem? I've got a CI Riveara 141of 2000 vintage. My problem is, when they built my bathroom, they did not stick the shower tray down level and with the movement of people standing in it, it has ended up with many fine cracks in it which of course leak. Removing the shower tray entails removing the entire bathroom from the vehicle including the window and interior wall which i dont think is gonna happen anytime soon as summer is on the way. Anyone know what glues this material? or does anyone have a solution/experiance of this problem?

I`ve heard somewhere about plastic welding being used to repair cracks in caravan sinks, etc.- don`t know anything about it I`m afraid, but it might be an alternative to using mastics. I`m sure somebody on here will be more imformative than me

Don't know about the glues (could be silicone mastic) but I had to have the shower tray in our Ace replaced under warranty recently

Harringtons made a superb job of it which entailed removing/replacing the cassette loo etc

What surprised me was that the tray only cost £65 to buy (FOC under warranty)

Hi Oily,

Rikster's answer is probably the best one. Many motorcycle repair specialists do plastic welding, so have a look in your Yellow Pages for 'motorcycle repairer' or something similar. I'm sure they would have no objection to repairing a shower tray, though it may amuse them a little, but who cares so long as you have no leaks.

Phil

That could depend on the type of plastic used

Ours developed a little crack on the top ledge so I drilled a hole at the end to stop it spreading and the I did it again three times in different places before it split by the plug hole

If you can get a new tray for £65 I would go for that because you could end up paying for a repair and then have to get a new one in the end.

Oily

If the shower wasen't installed correctly in the first place you may be wasting your money getting it repaired. The last thing you wanna do is fork out hard earned readies just to have it crack again.

Hi Oily, my shower tray developed lots of hairline cracks over the months and I considered replacing the shower tray as water was obviously seeping through and in time would damage the floor. When I stopped to think about it, I realised that as we never use the shower there's not a lot of point in having one and if I put a new tray in that would most likely crack up again due to the flexing of the vehicle on corners and rough roads.

So I removed the old shower tray, not as difficult as I thought it would be, after sealing the drain hole I fitted and sealed a false floor to clear the water and gas pipes which run along the floor. I then fitted a decorative wainscott ( from Wickes ) and laid lino which matches the kitchen area and sealed that as well. It looks lovely and is quite waterproof.

If it all needs to come up in the future to repair a pipe or something then it is only a matter of removing the sealant and unscrewing the false floor.

Phil.

I find that sparing use of a flannel

Followed as the holiday progresses with an oily rag

And finally emery cloth

Renders the need to shower obsolete

Can't understand why people seem to move away

Aren't there a lot of colds about these days

Everyone seems to have a handkerchief

But seriously and this is true .My late father in law ,a farmer had a bath every year after haymaking whether he needed it or not

Don't think he ever had a shower in his life.

Seems like a good job Phil to suite your needs

We have a similar problem with our new Autotrail motorhome. I think people were standing in it when looking at it in the showroom and there are hairline cracks. Our Autotrail agent has ordered a new showertray under warranty and said that they do not take the old one out but place the new one over the old one and reconnect the pipes. He also said it makes it stronger. Perhaps you can get someone to do a similar job with yours. He sealed the cracks with silicone until the new tray arrives for fitting. Hope this helps.

Ronseal do a shower tray repair kit but its a lot of faffing about.   I have a CI carioca also of 2000 vintage and  flexing caused a 3 inch crack in my shower base. A bead of Sikaflex 512 and some expanding foam pumped in for support has done the trick, but mine is concealed by a mat. If yours is visible go for the Ronseal but for the quick fix go for good old Sikaflex
