Sometimes the water can take a long time to heat up especially if the caravan is several years old because the heater element can get a severe build up of limescale much like your domestic kettle or washing machine. You can remove the limescale by using a product made by Truma called Aquastar 1+2 which is the only product on the market that I know of that is actually designed for the leisure industry for removing limescale and disinfecting the water system. I'm doing mine next week because my caravan is 13 years old and has probably never been done before but it's something that probably only needs doing once every five years.

And so is white wine vinegar, my friend, i have used it for years, just try it in you electric/gas kettle, and in my hobby handbook that is what they recommend to descale the boiller with, i find that is a lot cheaper than the manufactures recomended stuff and this is no JOKE.

Maybe it is a lot cheaper to buy but how many litres of white vinegar would you need to fill a caravan hot water tank and the whole system in general? plus I dread to think what the vinegar might do to the motor and internal rubber seals in the water pump. I think it's much easier just to buy a designed product by adding a sachet of granules to an Aquaroll barrel and pump it through the system because after all these products are tried and tested in laboratories.
