Hi

We've just purchased a Mercedes Vito to replace our wonderful but not quite as practical VW T25.

The Vito will be fitted with a full width bed and a few comforts ready for the summer. It also has an Eberspacher space heater connected (very disirable I hear), however we dont need this as we're fair weather campers.

Does anyone know someone or an organisation who can safely disconnect these things....preferably in the north west of England.

Its the fuel linkage/connection bit that worries me re a DIY job, though its a diesel rather than a petrol, which is less risky. The electrics seem straightforward though.

Assuming this is an additional retro fit heater it should be very easy to remove, the heater is normally mounted on a plate which is either bolted or screwed down to the floor. first disconnect the power supply, un bolt this plate and the whole thing should lift out after disconnecting the exhaust pipe,air intake pipe, and the fuel supply pipe under the vehcle. The fuel pipe can be disconnected from the supply side (ie the black plastic pipe from the tank) of the fuel pump there is a rubber coupling with a small hose clip just find a small bolt or piece of rod that fits into the rubber snuggly and retighten the clip, the fuel is not under any pressure. If you wish to re sell the heater emember to get all the parts ie pump, control /switch and as much of the wiring loom as possible etc as these parts are very expensive to buy seperately.could be worth looking at this site just to see the differant heaters and the controls etc www.mellorautoelectrical.co.uk 

the reason I mentioned about retro fit is because some of the mercede's vans have eberspachers fitted as standard and these are a differant type of thing used to pre heat the water in the engine etc ...........Mark

I'd suggest you try using it first, even in fair weather you can have some pretty cold mornings. We find it often saves us having to pay for hook-up to run an electric heater when it gets nippy, everything else will run off the leisure battery.

Ours runs on a timer so on really cold winter mornings I set it to come on 10 minutes before I get in (use it as my daily drive) which is fantastic!

The other reason for removing it is due to it taking up room where we need to put units. Basically it is surplus to our needs. On the odd chance thats it gets cold on our jollies, weve a plug in heater....and a big jumper.
