Hi, I'm new to posting on this forum, though have been lurking for ages! Some really good advice so far thank you!

Now to a specific question which I haven't found here yet. Can anyone please tell me if the Riviera Mobil 365 XL is easy to put up? Although expensive it seems to be quite versatile as you can use J rail or throw over guy ropes, but if it's a nightmare to put up I don't want to shell out on the pretty hefty price tag.

Or can anyone recommend anything else? We want an awning that lets in light and it's for our dogs to sleep in primarily, though having a small dining table would also be nice. Our motorhome is a coachbuilt Burstner with a 3m awning which I believe is an Omnistor. It's a pretty elderly camper, circa 1988 so not sure if modern "safari rooms" would fit, even if I could afford them!

All advice very gratefully recieved

Thanks

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne

I have this awning so unfortunately it looks like your lumbered with me to answer your questions.

The awning itself is a piece of cake to erect, first thing to do is put all your poles up & mark them with different coloured tape at each point of joining, this makes life much easier in the future, putting poles together takes about 10 mins, right now the fun bit eh, i tried for 2 seasons to use this as a driveaway this concept is a bl***y joke, using the J rail is nigh on impossible to keep secure in any wind whatsoever due to the width of the J rail run ( it pings off halfway along then the whole lot drops off )if you have the awning tight to stop sagging it's impossible to reattach to the van without dropping the the lot. So i've now gone for the standard awning rail same as caravans have.

How we erect it is, first make your poles up then run awning through the rail let it all lay down the side of the van, then move frame inwards then just simply lift it up over the frame 1 person inside 1 out, once over the frame we walk it all out away from the van then peg down starting at the annex part nearest the van first both sides, walk it out until taught then complete pegging down.

If you buy this awning make sure the front window panel is pegged out at an angle as this pulls the roof tight if you don't it will puddle something wicked.

Total time to erect takes us about an hour including filling it with chairs, tables etc

Mick

Just to add that obviously that mine is now configured as a fixed awning, if you still want it as a driveaway you will need 8ft of awning webbing + figure of 8 rail. The only drawback of this is that the awning stands about 4 inches away from your van so it can be very draughty
