I am about to take delivery of my first MH as above - Fiat 2.8 litre year 2000.
Anybody with any useful info on these?
Where in the market were they - bottom end; top end?
Can you still get bits?
Are they any good?
Rust problems?

I would have thought that you would have asked questions before buying and not after

I believe that your expected delivery is a 'dealer branded' Swift. If you have paid your deposit I would take a look at the reviews for this model on the internet. Some of which may confirm (in your mind) your choice, and others will tell you what to check out before you take delivery of it. Lifestyle is as I say a dealer branded  'regular' The only differences are upholstery/carpets etc. So purely a matter of choice when choosing a SWIFT swift, or the  dealer model. I have to say that things are not explained to newcommers to Motorhoming in the way that they should be. With so many vehicles for sale on forecourts at the moment, and so few customers for them. I hope when having read reviews you are not dissapointed with your purchase.

I have the 590 Suntor with the 2.8 engine and have had it for seven years. Its been so good that Ive had it upholstered rather than change it. Just have it serviced annually and it will give you years of service. The engine is powerful enough to pull far bigger vans than the lifestyle and therefore  economical...enjoy

PS Check when it last had a cambelt change....70000 miles or 5years whichever soonest.  approx £250

It has the 2.8 diesel; not turbo. So far have driven it only on gentle hills and I need to come down into third. Dont know what will happen on a steep hill; might be crawling along at 5mph!

Yes, it has a 2.8D (not 2.8TD) badge on the cab and the engine code is 8140.63 which is non-turbo diesel. Produces only about 60% of the turbo diesel power.

We have a Fiat 2.8TDi which we have found to be really good, not sure about the non turbo as no experience.  Ours is a 2000 model too, it's worth checking whether the cam belt needs changing and that the tyres show no sign of cracking.  Enjoy!!

Hiya Davie

Just done this job on my 1997 Hymer and have read somewhere that the problem can exist on much newer models.

Across the front and under the radiator is a cross member which is prone to corrosion. Mine came off in two bits. It's worth keeping an eye on but not the end of the world if it is rotten. About £60 for the part off Ebay and a couple of hours with an 18mm socket.
