Yes I know you are probably laughing your head off about the topic, but please try and calm yourself for a moment...I'm trying to be serious .

Every year, we end up having to take our van in to have the gas seen to, as for some unknown reason, we get a blockage and the gas doesn't get through to the fridge, hob or oven.  As it's all three (we never use the heating so haven't included that), I'm assuming it's a problem at source, and wondering if it could be the regulator, which I think is what the device is called that connects the system to the gas bottle.  Are these consumer changeable...can we change it ourselves?  Or does it have to be done by a qualified gas fitter?  If not, can an ordinary Corgi registered gas fitter do it, or does it have to go to a motorhome dealer?

If it is the regulator, I feel like buying the stupid things in bulk, because every year we have this problem.  Is it a common thing to go wrong or are we just the unlucky ones?

We had a problem with the truma regulator on one of our caravans. put a new one on and was fine after.

I take it you mean a bulkhead regulator, ie one that is screwed to the wall of your gas locker? They are known to cause problems, it is claimed because of oil in the gas causing contamination. You can change it yourself if you understand what is involved & can use tools but otherwise book it into a caravan workshop, they should only charge you an hours labour + cost of regulator. the actual regulator could be at fault, that would be my first point of action - also the cheapest.

To see if gas is getting to your bulkhead regulator, disconect the feed to it and then get someone to turn the gas on very slowly - ensuring you do not have any naked flames around - or conect to a monometer. If gas is getting to it then reconnect, and diconnect one of the outfeeds,if nothing comes out then thats your problem.

However- Only do this if you feel confident with working with gas, if you do not know one end of a spanner from the other then give it a miss

Thank you all for the replies.  I certainly don't know anything about gas (only that my husband could fuel a whole campsite on his own emissions!), so I guess we are off to a caravan/motorhome place to get them to have a look for us (again ).
